Sahasrara Chakra means a thousand-petalled lotus and is also known as the seventh chakra, Brahmarandhra (the door to God), Shunnya, Niralambapuri, and the Centre of a Million Rays (as it glows like the Sun) and the crown chakra. Sahasrara chakra represents the wisdom of an individual and the spiritual union with the divine, through complete awareness of the world and self. It does not have a specific color associated with it; it is pure light, which engulfs all the other colors.
This chakra is located at the top of the head, four finger-breadths above the crown, midline between the ears. It is placed as a crown that radiates upwards and hence called the crown chakra. Based on its location, it has a connection with the first chakra or root chakras as both falls at the extreme ends of the chakra chart.
The Sahasrara chakra is mainly associated with the brain and skin, but it also affects the eyes, ears, pineal glands (which secretes essential hormones), and the muscular and skeletal systems.
Blocked Sahasrara Chakra leads to mental and emotional issues including headaches, senility, depression, dementia and neurological issues. Other associated diseases are multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, etc.
When this chakra is overactive or hyperactive, the person gets obsessive thoughts and he/she continues to live in the past or worry about the future. It can also result in obsessive spirituality, which causes a person to neglect other essential duties.
Any form of blockage can cause the crown chakra to become inactive or perform below its potential. This causes the person to be selfish and unaware (spiritually as well as personally) and face loss of identity, lack of purpose in life, depression, and lack of joy. An underactive chakra can also result in selfish thoughts leading to lack of ethics and morals. This is because such people are not able to understand the guidance from the Supreme Power and feel unworthy.
The person with a balanced Sahasrara chakra has a magnetic personality and has inner peace. He or she constantly expands their self-awareness by replacing beliefs with knowledge.
Meditate with an intent of balancing the Chakra and focus on the top of the head. Visualize the color violet and feel a connection with a higher cosmic power. The simplest way to open this chakra is by expressing gratitude and hence one must thank the universe while meditating.
Shavasana (or the corpse position) and Padmasana (or the lotus position) are the two postures in yoga that opens the seventh chakra. Shirshasan or the headstand increases the blood flow to the brain and opens the chakra.
Saral Vaastu at home and following the principles of directions are important in opening the chakras.
Fasting and detoxifying is also recommended. One should only consume light meals comprising of violet colored fruits and vegetables, and broth.
